About Me
My name is Cynthia Jackson and I am the founder of Sacred Rose Birthing Services, serving Metro Detroit (Wayne, Macomb, Oakland, and Washtenaw counties). I have been a DONA (Doulas of North America) trained birth doula since 2005 assisting in over 35 births, a CAPPA (Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association) trained childbirth educator since 2010, and this year I am implementing a new birth service to honor pregnant women and welcome her into motherhood in a loving, graceful, and peaceful way called the "Sacred Rose" ceremony.
Here is some background information that led me to where I am now: at the tender age of 10, I watched a home video of my aunt giving birth and it struck an interest with me. At that age all I knew was that I wanted to have a career assisting pregnant women birth their babies. All I was told was that if I wanted to deliver babies then I should become an OB/GYN. I went to college to pursue becoming a doctor and graduated from Tennessee State University in 2004 with hopes of going to medical school. I started to do more research to make sure medical school was the right path for me and after continued research on how I would assist women in childbirth, I discovered doulas and the profession of midwifery in 2005. I knew then that midwifery was my calling. My future plans are to become a Certified Professional Midwife and open a birth center.
I also am a birth activist. I am the Detroit Area Regional Coordinator for Friends of Michigan Midwives, our mission is to educate and inform the public about the profession of midwifery and gain supporters for licensure for midwives in the state of MI. I am involved in advocating for birth as the Michigan state representative for International Center for Traditional Childbearing (ICTC), our mission is to promote breastfeeding, reduce maternal & infant mortality, and increase the number of black doulas, midwives & healers.
I am very passionate about birth and I love to assist women & families with their birth choices whether it's in a hospital, birth center, or home birth. Currently I am taking doula clients, an apprentice midwife with Trillium Birth Services, teaching private childbirth education classes, facilitating the Sacred Rose Ceremony for pregnant women, and I am enrolled in a home study course to become a Conscious Birth Emissary.
